New Tropical Modern Invitation Designs on my Etsy Shop!

Okay wow it has been over a YEAR since I have blogged. I'm a little ashamed but the lack of posts does not mean the lack of work. This has been my busiest year with fun, challenging, and exciting projects, plus a new job! Even though change can be scary, it also means incredible growth. I continue to take on fun side projects and currently working on some exciting brand creations that I can't wait to share in the near future!

But as of now, I'm obsessed with all things banana and palm leaves creating a modern tropical vibe. We are redecorating our apartment space to incorporate some of these elements so of course it naturally spills out into my creative design space. And perfect timing for summer! You can purchase both of these designs on my Etsy page here:

Dreamy Boho Baby Shower

This project was SUCH a joy to work on.  The moment Kelly reached out and told me "hot pink, feathers, bohemian, and dream catchers" I got beyond excited to get started. I started with the dream catcher which I knew had to be adorned with pretty watercolor flowers. From there everything fell into place with whimsical calligraphy and bight color palette reminiscent of a Indian sunset.

Once the invites were done, we brainstormed on day-of details which included banner signage, menus, placecards, cocktail signs and more. Kelly worked magic pulling all the details together (follow her event design, home, & lifestyle Instagram @peacedesignco for styling tips!) and Love This Photography captured it all so beautifully! I was honored to work alongside these ladies on this special project! Excuse my iPhone pictures of the invites, but then revel in the amazingness of Love This Photography's day-of photos! :)

The Mint Julep

The Mint Julep is a classic cocktail for a reason - not only is it refreshing and delicious, it's just plain classy. Think people dressed to the nines, ladies in big hats, beautiful horses, and money on the line. Yes, the Kentucky Derby is not only known for those things but the Mint Julep as well, making it a cocktail that isn't going away any time soon. Plus, drinking from a silver cup makes anything and anyone feel special. For this reason, I knew I needed a Mint Julep classic cocktail recipe print to add to the collection. I hope to get this one printed in a silver foil in time for next year's Derby to match my copper foil printed Moscow Mule prints. But until then, this black and white print will have to do.

Sienna's 1st Birthday

My niece was born a bit before St. Patrick's Day so of course her first birthday party theme had to involve "bangers, mash, a cake smash." We decided on traditional Irish green, but softened it with a watercolor background with some teal colors, all accented with gold glitter to give it that fun and girly finish. They turned out so cute! But of course, how could anything with that face not turn out adorable?

This set involved the main invitations (lined with gold glitter washi tape along the bottom), cupcake flavor toppers, banner signs, thank you flags, and "One" signage for her cake and hair chair.

Music Monday: Marina & the Diamonds • "Froot"

It's been awhile since i've done a Music Monday but this one is special because I'm equally featuring it for it's superb design and marketing campaign. Marina and the Diamonds has a new album coming out in April called Froot, so naturally, the whole design and look is fruit-themed. But not boring fruit themed - rainbow neon, almost space-like, slot fruit themed. It's electric and fun and reminiscent of days playing MarioKart's Rainbow Road and constantly flying off the edges into space. Oh was that last weekend? Anywaysss...

I love how committed she gets into each album's look. I read somewhere that she likes things to be packaged and branded nicely which comes out in her own work with each album really having it's own look and feel - and not just musically, but visually which is something a designer can really appreciate. She is releasing a "fruit of the month" which features a new song from her album each month before its release. Plus, the vinyl release will feature 6 discs each with their own scratch-and-sniff covers. She knows the way to my five-year-old heart.

Listen to her first single "Froot" below!

Copper Foiled Letterpress Moscow Mule Prints

Copper Foil Moscow Mule Print

I finally went for it. I got my Moscow Mule typography design copper-foiled and letterpressed. They turned out gorgeous and I couldn't be happier. What helped me pull the trigger was my good friend Christian Kaysen (of Kaysen Photography) said he would love to do a styled shoot with them if I did. I figured if I was going to sell them, they were gonna need some awesome photos and Christian captured them perfectly. Plus we got to drink the cocktails out of copper mugs at the end which is always a plus. If you've never had a Moscow Mule out of a copper mug, you need to. Makes all the difference.

You can purchase one of these lovelies in my shop or on Etsy. Get em in time for Christmas! Perfect to gift with a copper mug set for that Moscow Mule lover in your life. Or anyone who enjoys a good cocktail ;)

Brand • Kaysen Photography

GUYS! I'm so excited. So I worked with my very talented friend Christian Kaysen on rebranding his photography business (Kaysen Photography) and posted a few teaser pics ALL the way back in January. I was waiting for him to take a pictures of all the printed pieces so I could share here. And I waited. And waited. And waited until I finally gave up thinking maybe he deep down didn't love the rebranding as much as he said he did. And then, to my surprise, I was browsing his site today and FOUND THE PICS! He posted them back in April. I'm too excited to see and share them that I don't even care it took me more than half a year to notice. So take a look at how everything came together! Really proud of this set. Of course he can photograph anything and make it look amazing.

And if you're in need of a photographer, you could do no better than Kaysen Photography. Just take a look at his work and see for yourself. Not to mention it's always a pleasure working with him.

The Best Pumpkin Bread

The Best Pumpkin Bread | via Katie Noel

This pumpkin bread recipe. You have to make it. My mom has used this recipe ever since we received it in a paper-bound book from my pre-school class, artistically decorated with scratch-and-sniff- stickers by yours truly. Unfortunately the book is looking a little ragged these days  but it still doesn't stop me from scratching and sniffing those strawberry shaped stickers every. single. time. And do you know what? They still smell good. But because the tattered book stays in my mom's collection I have reverted to using a picture I took of the recipe page, so I thought typing it out here would be much better so I can keep it nice and safe in my Pinterest collection. So everyone wins! Me, you, and the internet.

This pumpkin bread is the perfect balance between fluffy, moist, slightly sweet and pumpkiny. Plus it's simple. I think sometimes people complicate recipes just to seem fancy. Sometimes, less is more. You can whip this up within 10 minutes and be enjoying it within the hour. Do it.

That bite out of the bread wasn't an artistic choice. I just couldn't help myself.

The best pumpkin bread

1 1/4 cup four
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup sugar

1 egg
1/2 cup oil
1 cup canned pumpkin
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Sift all dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. Mix the egg, pumpkin, oil and vanilla together in a separate bowl and add the pumpkin mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just incorporated.

Pour batter into a greased bread pan and bake for 45 minutes or until done. Enjoy!

Music Monday: Alt-J • "The Gospel of John Hurt"

I really have no idea what this song about but it sure is cool to listen to. Let me help you ease into your Monday morning with a little Alt-J.

And just for fun and because I know you're dying to know, my "alt" name is: ˚冈´ ˜ø´¬. (Hold down the "alt" key and type your name.)

And for the record, "alt-j" is really ∆ if you type it. Now you know.
